1. What is the Todd-a-thon?
The Todd-a-thon is a Halloween fundraising event for the whole family that includes a fun run/walk and other games & activities! It benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the Todd Reed McClintock Memorial Research Fund. This event was created to honor the life and spirit of Todd McClintock. In loving memory of him, TEAM TODD is committed to reaching the ultimate finish line- a CURE for leukemia and other blood cancers.
2. Who is Todd McClintock?
Todd McClintock is our son/brother/uncle/friend who’s battle with leukemia ended in 2007, after he valiantly fought the disease for 17 months. His courage and positive attitude during his fight were inspirational. Todd was always a kind, witty, fun-loving guy. He loved Halloween and a great costume. We battle on, in Todd’s honor, for a future where other lives will not be lost to this disease.
3. Can I pre-register?
If you donate prior to the event, you will be registered for the event. Otherwise, please visit the registration table to donate and register for the Todd-a-thon.
4. What is Gilfillan Trail?
Gilfillan Trail is a 1.25 mile loop nature trail. The path itself is not paved, but covered in wood chips. Though basic umbrella strollers may be difficult to maneuver on the path, jogger strollers should work. The loop is quite hilly, but surrounded by a variety of trees and shaded for the majority of the distance.
5. How far is the “Fun run/walk?”
The Fun run/walk is 2.5 miles, or twice around the loop. However, participants interested in a shorter distance because of small children or any other factors are more than welcome to walk less than the full distance.
6. Is there parking near the trail?
The trail is located directly next to Westminster Church’s parking lot, where registration, snacks and games & activities will take place.
7. Where should I go and what should I do upon arriving at the trail?
Registration will take place in the parking lot between the church and trail. Please visit the registration table upon arriving. Here you may sign in for the Fun run/walk and hand in donations, if you have not done so prior to the event.
8. What if it rains?
The show must go on! Todd-a-thon will take place at the same time, date, and location no matter the weather, so please come prepared with umbrellas and dry clothes in case of rain.
9. Will beverages or snacks be provided?
Though we cannot 100% guarantee the amount, bagels, coffee and a few other snacks will be available. And of course, no Halloween-themed event would be complete without candy for the kids!
10. Do I need to wear a costume?
Halloween was one of Todd’s favorite times of year, so costumes are certainly encouraged. However, they are not required. We’ll be happy to have you there no matter how you’re dressed.
11. What types of activities will there be?
We don’t want to give away all the surprises! There will be guessing games, and Halloween-related activities.
12. What other opportunities will be available at the Todd-a-thon?
You may be eligible to join the national bone marrow registry and/or donate blood. Not many people are as lucky as Todd was to have 7 siblings for a possible match in their family. You may be able to help these other patients by joining the national registry. This is an important decision, so please think about it carefully. More information will be available at the Todd-a-thon or at www.dkmsamericas.org. Todd also received multiple units of blood that helped to keep him strong during his 18 month battle. You can help other patients in need by donating blood at a blood drive which is taking place across the street at the USC fire department.
